May: Next thing.

Hello, I’m addressing you directly. Some of you will have noticed that I didn’t post in April. The blog has been running for three years of monthly fiction posts. It’s time for a change. Now that I am beginning to submit work for other people to publish I can’t put as much on here. Where there might appear to be gaps in the archive of posts that’s where stories have been reworked from the stump of blog post beginnings for possible publication. Perhaps one day the archive of this blog will be completely denuded. So the blog needs something else. This year I went through two drafts of my first novel-length work. My book project. So I’ve been a bit busy.

The process of writing something book-long has been fascinating for me. I think that for the next 12 months I will write a post a month about what I’m doing with the book project. This may be added to by guest posts of stories from other new writers.

So here’s where I am at the moment. My book project is with kind people who are reading it through for me. I wonder if other writers do this and feel like me, that the book is a mess, that its spine is there but that there are many – things – hanging off it. It’s a horror show.

I have put it aside for a while before I re-read it (yet again). The synopsis needs writing. Maybe that will help shape it up for my next edit. I was so close to it in the last edit I did that I kept second guessing and changing words back and forth. Do any of you go through this as well?

So an apology to people who read this blog for stories, they’ll be back someday.
